WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Mushroom Cultivation
A suitable surface at a base, including a dark or underground location in standard PC survival worlds.
Before you go
- Mushroom Seed acquired from loot or crafting when available.
- A suitable open surface for planting.
- Storage for harvested mushrooms.
Farming steps
- Find a Mushroom Seed in loot or craft one if your progression and materials permit it.
- Choose a stable surface at your base with enough room to access the plant.
- Place the seed directly on that surface; a Farm Plot and sunlight are not needed for mushrooms.
- Leave the planting in place while it grows.
- Return to the spot and harvest once the mushroom is mature.
- Store the mushrooms or use them in food and crafting needs.
- Plant another seed when available to continue the supply.
- Use a dark base surface for mushrooms rather than building a sunlit garden just for this crop.
- Mark or group planting spots so you can find them during regular base upkeep.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat when another Mushroom Seed is available; the crop is renewable, but a new planting depends on seed supply.
Common mistakes
- Building a plot unnecessarily: mushrooms are the farming exception and do not require one.
- Assuming every crop grows underground: the sunlight exception applies to mushrooms, while most crops need light.
- Harvesting before maturity: revisit later if the plant is not ready.
When to stop or switch
Stop adding mushroom plantings when stored mushrooms meet your current needs, or focus on finding another seed if the planting supply ends.
