WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Coal Mining
Coal surface nodes and deposits in standard survival worlds; Burnt Forest is a useful area to search.
Before you go
- A pickaxe or Auger for hard ore.
- Repair supplies and enough inventory space for coal.
Farming steps
- Search the surface for a Coal node and mark it before digging.
- Open a shaft below the marker until you expose coal ore.
- Mine the visible coal and inspect the adjacent blocks for continuation.
- Follow bordering gravel cautiously, clearing it to reveal neighboring deposits.
- Collect the coal and keep the entrance usable so you can leave and return safely.
- Take the haul back to base and reserve it for fuel or crafting needs such as gunpowder.
- Use surface nodes as starting clues rather than digging randomly.
- Carry only the amount you can extract and transport without losing your exit route.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat at another Coal node when stocks run low; each trip is a new deposit run, not a guaranteed fixed quantity.
Common mistakes
- Searching only underground: scan the surface for the marker first to narrow the excavation.
- Expanding blindly: gravel can border ore, but check the exposed blocks instead of digging a huge unsupported chamber.
- Using coal without a plan: keep a reserve for the fuel or recipes you rely on.
When to stop or switch
Stop once you have enough coal for your current fuel and crafting needs, or return if the shaft becomes unsafe or your inventory fills.
