Outer islands, Spirit Essence sources and Leygates throughout an Ancient Lands instance.
Before you go
- Entry through an Ancient Lands portal, with a group size matched to the portal.
- A build able to defeat enough eligible island mobs and handle rival players.
- A route decision for when to continue, change gates or exit with rewards.
Farming steps
- Enter an island and identify the mobs that count toward its objective.
- Defeat half the island’s eligible mobs; do not count marmots toward completion.
- Claim the Leygate Keystone provided when the objective is complete.
- Collect Spirit Essence from statues, mob drops or Drakes as the route presents them.
- Use the Keystone to activate a Leygate or remove it to select another route.
- Before activating, assess whether the gate’s visibility could draw rival groups.
- Continue until your target is reached, then use an exit portal or central route as appropriate.
- Spirit Essence benefits the current run, so treat it as temporary combat value rather than a bankable reward.
- Nearby allies can revive a downed teammate, but revives stack a maximum-health penalty during the expedition.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeatable per expedition: complete another island objective and gather more run-bound Essence; all Essence stacks are lost on exit.
Common mistakes
- Stopping after killing a Drake without completing that island’s objective; the quest and kill are separate tasks.
- Assuming an activated Leygate is private; other players can see it and may follow.
- Leaving with a plan to use the same Essence later; exiting removes the accumulated stacks.
When to stop or switch
Take an exit when you have enough rewards or the accumulated Essence and carried loot are too costly to risk further.
