Before you go
- A tamed Ankylosaurus with a saddle.
- A route to a mapped metal cluster that you can travel and retreat from safely.
- A forge and fuel at base to smelt collected ore.
Farming steps
- Choose a metal cluster using The Island resource map and plan a return path before leaving base.
- Equip the Ankylosaurus and bring protection suitable for the terrain and nearby threats.
- Travel to the cluster and inspect the nodes and retreat route before beginning the harvest.
- Use the Ankylosaurus to harvest metal nodes, checking its inventory and weight as you work.
- Stop adding ore when the tame's load or movement makes the return risky.
- Lead the tame back along the planned route and unload ore at base.
- Fuel a forge, smelt the ore, and collect the metal ingots for crafting.
- The Ankylosaurus improves gathering and hauling, but does not remove the need to manage weight or protect it on mountain travel.
- Use the in-game mini-map and terrain landmarks to validate your position; ASA map waypoint displays can disagree.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat the mapped node, tame harvest, safe return, and forge cycle as your metal needs grow. Each run supplies additional ore; smelting is a separate step.
Common mistakes
- Taking the tame to a cluster with no safe exit: choose the return route before harvesting.
- Loading it until it cannot travel effectively: set a conservative load and leave when reached.
- Stopping after harvest without smelting: move ore to a fueled forge and collect ingots.
When to stop or switch
Finish the run when the Ankylosaurus has a manageable load, you have enough ore for the next forge batch, or the route becomes unsafe.
