Balance Farm Nutrients

Keep Farm Soil productive by matching nutrient inputs to crop demands and avoiding wasteful blanket fertilizing.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Established Farm Soil plots where plant and soil conditions are easy to inspect.

DST farm soil tracks three nutrient types: Compost, Manure, and Growth Formula. Crops draw on and return nutrients differently, while weeds consume nutrients without returning them. Inspect plants and soil, then target the nutrient the crop actually needs.

How to farm

Before you go

  • Crops planted in Farm Soil
  • Suitable nutrient inputs, such as manure or compost
  • Time to inspect each plot
  1. Inspect crops and soil before adding any fertilizer.
  2. Identify which nutrient is lacking and which planted crops are drawing on it.
  3. Choose a suitable input for the missing nutrient rather than treating all fertilizer alike.
  4. Apply the input to the relevant plot and check the plants again.
  5. Group crops with compatible nutrient demands where that helps keep the bed in balance.
  6. Remove weeds that consume nutrients without returning them.
  7. At harvest, review the plot before planting the next cycle and replenish only what is needed.

Farming tips

  • Pig manure is a useful input, but direct it to plots whose needs match it.
  • Keep crop groupings small enough that you can notice stress before it spreads.

Repeat, collect and use

Inspect and replenish after each crop cycle; nutrient levels change with crops, inputs, and weeds.

Common mistakes

  • Adding a generic fertilizer to every plot: check nutrient categories first.
  • Ignoring weeds: remove them because they take nutrients from the soil.
  • Repeating the same crop layout indefinitely: reassess the nutrient state before each replanting.

When to stop or switch

Stop adding inputs once the crop’s needs are met; switch to another plot if restoring this one would consume scarce supplies.
