Before you go

Farming steps

  1. Check the season and inspect each crop’s growing requirements before planting.
  2. Prepare reachable rows and plant a small grouping of potatoes and tomatoes.
  3. Check each plant’s family-neighbor conditions and adjust the grouping if needed.
  4. Inspect the soil and plants for moisture or nutrient stress.
  5. Water and add the nutrients indicated by the crop rather than applying inputs blindly.
  6. Tend plants when requested and clear weeds or garden debris.
  7. Harvest mature crops, then save seed or feed surplus produce to a caged bird for crop seeds.

Repeat, collect and use

Replant from saved or bird-converted seeds while you can supply suitable conditions and tend the rows.

Common mistakes

  • Planting a large bed before checking its needs: test a smaller grouping first.
  • Leaving plants unattended: regular inspection catches moisture, nutrient, and tending problems.
  • Using all produce as food: reserve seed material before cooking.

When to stop or switch

Reduce or pause planting when the season or available care makes either crop too stressful to maintain.
