Before you go
- Rails, a locomotive, and cargo wagons.
- Powered drills and a belt-fed loading area.
- Named stops, loading and unloading inserters, and locomotive fuel.
Farming steps
- Build rail between the patch and its receiving area.
- Place and name a loading stop beside the drill output.
- Connect ore belts to inserters that load cargo wagons.
- Place and name an unloading stop at the smelter; connect unloaders to its ore route.
- Add locomotive and wagons, then provide fuel.
- Set a schedule for both stops with suitable loading and unloading wait conditions.
- Monitor buffers and train movement; adjust handling or train capacity if supply falls behind.
- Verify each schedule entry targets the intended stop name.
- Buffers help smelters keep running between train arrivals.
Repeat, collect and use
Automated deliveries repeat while the patch has ore and train, track, fuel, and stations remain operational.
Common mistakes
- Leaving a train without fuel or a schedule; check both before expecting deliveries.
- Mismatched stop names or schedule targets; verify the displayed names.
- Loading faster than unloading can clear cargo; balance handling at both stations.
When to stop or switch
Add capacity when deliveries cannot sustain smelting; stop servicing the patch when it is depleted.
