Before you go
- Pumpjacks and power.
- Pipes, barrels, or fluid wagons for crude transport.
- A refinery and routes for its fluid outputs.
Farming steps
- Locate an oil field and identify wells where pumpjacks can be placed.
- Place pumpjacks and connect their fluid outputs.
- Choose a transport method suited to the distance and factory layout.
- Connect crude to refinery input and select an available processing recipe.
- Route each refinery product separately to consumers or storage.
- For a remote field, supply power and protect the pumps and transport route.
- Check delivery over time and add wells or improve logistics if refinery input is insufficient.
- Keep low-yield wells connected if their output still contributes to refinery supply.
- Storage can smooth deliveries, but full product storage can stop refining.
Repeat, collect and use
Ongoing extraction; under standard settings well yield falls over time and levels off at a minimum.
Common mistakes
- Leaving refinery outputs without room to go; route or consume each product.
- Building remote pumps without power or a reliable transport route; complete the outpost.
- Expecting initial yield to remain unchanged; supplement the field if throughput falls.
When to stop or switch
Add another field or improve transport when crude delivery cannot support the refinery’s intended output.
