Before you go
- Airship access to the updraft area.
- Deck Extractor.
- Cargo space for the collected metal.
Farming steps
- Rise above the dust and scan the updrafts for rusty debris clusters.
- Steer the airship close enough to bring a cluster within Deck Extractor reach.
- Aim the Deck Extractor at the cluster and harvest it.
- Check nearby updrafts for additional clusters before leaving the area.
- Store the metal aboard and use it in recipes or refine it when a component recipe requires that form.
- Exposed metal supports at old structures and metal doors or walls at landing sites are alternate extractor targets.
- Keep the ship clear of any unstable structure while harvesting exposed supports.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat at other updrafts you encounter. The available evidence does not establish that a harvested cluster respawns, so treat each cluster as a finite salvage find.
Common mistakes
- Trying to collect clusters by hand: use the Deck Extractor.
- Assuming every metal source floats in the sky: landing-site doors, walls, and supports can also yield metal.
- Expecting a fixed haul per cluster: no guaranteed quantity is established.
When to stop or switch
