Before you go
- No tool for picking small mushrooms.
- A chopping tool of the required tier for Toadstool nodes.
- Roasting Spit for cooking, or Grinder and Oven for chunk processing.
Farming steps
- Walk a Grasslands route and collect small Mushrooms directly from the ground.
- Use the small mushrooms for immediate food needs or bring them to a Roasting Spit if you want them cooked.
- For a larger batch, travel to an upper-yard Toadstool patch.
- Check the node's chopping requirement, harvest with the appropriate axe, and pick up the Mushroom Chunks.
- Use chunks in the Oven chain you have unlocked, such as Mushroom Slurry and bricks, rather than treating them as ready-to-eat mushrooms.
- Store cooked food or processed materials for the purpose you planned.
- Use small mushrooms for a quick food pickup; reserve chunk-processing trips for when you need their crafting output.
- Check station access before carrying chunks back from the upper yard.
Repeat, collect and use
Collect small mushrooms whenever you pass their patches; revisit Toadstool nodes when chunk-based recipes need more. Availability varies by node and ground pickup.
Common mistakes
- Trying to harvest a Toadstool with an under-tier axe: confirm the node's requirement first.
- Expecting chunks to act like ready food: process them through the appropriate station chain.
- Making a distant chunk run for an immediate snack: pick small ground mushrooms instead.
When to stop or switch
Stop collecting ground mushrooms when your food storage is adequate; stop the chunk route when your planned Oven or building batch is covered.
