Deep tunnel mining
Overworld — deep deepslate around Y=-58 to -59.
A deep mining trip can expose diamond ore in deepslate. Excavate a safe horizontal route, inspect the walls and use a tool that can harvest the ore. Fortune can increase collected diamonds; Silk Touch preserves the ore block instead.

How to craft
Before you craft
- Iron pickaxe or better.
- Lighting, food and equipment for lava encounters.
- Inventory space for ore and other finds.
- Make a safe descent to the deep deepslate layers around Y=-58 to -59.
- Establish a horizontal tunnel and light the route so you can retrace it.
- Inspect exposed walls and mine diamond ore with an eligible pickaxe.
- Collect the diamond drops, or use Silk Touch if your goal is to store ore blocks.
- Use Fortune when available and when you want more drops from mined ore.
- Continue along the tunnel, checking both sides as new blocks are exposed.
- Return to the surface with the diamonds before equipment or inventory space runs short.
Crafting tips
- A visible ore block does not guarantee a diamond drop if your pickaxe cannot harvest it; check tool tier first.
- Deep mining can be combined with redstone gathering when both are needed, since their routes overlap.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeatable as a mining expedition, but each ore vein is finite.
Common mistakes
- Using a tool below the required tier: bring an iron pickaxe or better.
- Confusing Silk Touch and Fortune goals: Silk Touch collects ore blocks; Fortune is for increased drops.
- Ignoring lava hazards at depth: light the route and mine cautiously around exposed openings.
When to stop or switch
Stop when you have the diamonds needed for the intended equipment or project, or return to restock supplies.

- Check underwater exposures only when you can manage air and escape.
