CRAFTING & INGREDIENTS

Tree-to-charcoal loop

Base — tree plot and regular furnace.

Turn harvested Overworld logs into charcoal with a regular furnace, then reserve some charcoal to fuel the next batch. Replant saplings so wood production continues. Charcoal is useful fuel but is a separate item from coal.

How to craft

Before you craft

  • Overworld logs and saplings.
  • Regular furnace and starter fuel.
  • A clear, lit tree-growing area.
  1. Harvest logs from your tree plot and collect saplings for replanting.
  2. Place logs in the furnace input and starter fuel in its fuel slot.
  3. Wait for smelting to finish and collect the charcoal output.
  4. Set aside some charcoal as fuel for the next batch; keep the remainder for torches or other uses.
  5. Replant saplings in clear, lit spaces so the next log harvest can grow.
  6. Harvest and smelt another batch when your charcoal stock needs replenishing.

Crafting tips

  • Stems, planks and sticks are not valid inputs for this charcoal process; use logs.
  • If you already have a Silk Touch tree harvest setup, keep the logs intact until they reach the furnace.

Repeat, collect and use

Renewable while trees can be replanted and some starter fuel is available; reserve charcoal to sustain later batches.

Common mistakes

  • Putting planks, stems or sticks in the input: use Overworld logs.
  • Using all charcoal immediately: reserve fuel for the next smelting run.
  • Cutting trees without keeping saplings: retain enough to replant the plot.

When to stop or switch

Stop when your fuel and torch stock meets your needs; switch back to the tree plot when the reserve runs low.
