Before you go
- Java Edition 26.3 or later.
- Axe recommended; bring room to carry logs and saplings.
- A safe route home and a clear, lit place for replacement saplings.
Farming steps
- Search the Overworld near cold biomes for Dappled Forest terrain; standing and fallen poplar trees are both useful finds.
- Check the area around each trunk before cutting so logs and saplings are not left behind or lost in hazards.
- Cut the trunk and collect its logs. Gather fallen saplings from leaves as they decay or break.
- Turn the logs into the poplar wood blocks required by your build or recipe; retain some logs if you need them unprocessed.
- Plant the recovered saplings in a clear, lit area with enough overhead space for growth.
- Return to the grove or check replacement trees after growth, harvest their logs and gather the next saplings.
- A wandering trader may offer poplar saplings, which can help start a grove when local leaf drops are sparse.
- An Abandoned Camp may contain an explorer map leading toward a Dappled Forest camp; treat it as a route-finding aid, not a guaranteed tree location.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeatable after saplings are established. The first trip depends on finding poplar or another source of saplings.
Common mistakes
- Leaving without collecting saplings: check the leaf area before moving on so you can replant.
- Planting beneath a low roof: leave clear overhead space or the sapling may not grow.
- Assuming a map guarantees a nearby grove: follow it to the indicated area, then search the terrain for trees.
When to stop or switch
Stop gathering when you have the project quantity plus saplings for replanting; switch to the home grove for later batches.
