Before you go

Stone pickaxe or better.
Lighting and food for a mining route.
Inventory space for lapis and other finds.

Farming steps

Descend safely to around Y=0, where stone transitions toward deepslate.
Establish a horizontal tunnel and light it as you go.
Inspect exposed walls for blue-speckled lapis ore.
Mine the ore with a suitable pickaxe and collect the lapis drops.
Use Fortune when available if you want more lapis from the ore.
If using Silk Touch, keep ore blocks separate until you decide when to mine them.
Continue the tunnel or return to the surface once the project quantity is met.

A second lapis generation batch ranges more widely but is not exposed to air, so tunnel inspection remains useful.
Combine the trip with other mining needs near this depth rather than making repeated descents.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeatable as a mining expedition; each ore vein is finite.

Common mistakes

Using a Silk Touch tool when loose lapis is required: mine the ore with a normal or Fortune pickaxe.
Confusing lapis ore with blue blocks from another source: check the collected item name.
Expecting all lapis to appear on exposed surfaces: continue tunneling to expose buried blocks.
