Before you go
- Two adult cows and wheat.
- Enclosure with a secure entrance.
- Grass or other suitable pen space for a manageable herd.
Farming steps
- Find two cows in Plains, Forest or Savanna and lead them home with wheat.
- Close them inside an enclosed pen so they cannot wander away.
- Feed wheat to both adults to produce a calf.
- Repeat breeding after the cooldown while keeping the herd size manageable.
- Let calves grow into adults before considering them for harvest.
- Keep at least two adults for future breeding and kill surplus adults to collect leather and beef.
- Store leather for the intended crafting project and replenish wheat before the next breeding round.
- Looting improves drops but is optional; no single cow is guaranteed to yield leather.
- Calves expand the herd; harvest adults only after keeping enough breeders.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeatable while adult cows, wheat and a breeding pair are maintained; individual leather drops vary.
Common mistakes
- Harvesting calves before they mature: use them to expand the herd first.
- Removing both breeding adults: keep a pair to continue production.
- Expecting guaranteed leather from one cow: build a reserve through repeated adult harvests.
When to stop or switch
Stop harvesting when the leather requirement is met and retain a pair for future batches.
