Before you go

Farming steps

  1. Plant pumpkin or melon seeds on farmland and provide light level 9 or higher at the stems.
  2. Leave a suitable adjacent dirt-like block beside each stem for fruit to appear.
  3. Let stems mature; bone meal can advance stem growth but does not force a fruit to appear.
  4. Watch for fruit on adjacent ground and harvest it while leaving the stem planted.
  5. Clear the fruit space so the mature stem can produce there again.
  6. Collect pumpkins as blocks or melons as slices, depending on crop and harvesting method.
  7. For automation, use a tested piston-based design that collects fruit without uprooting the stem.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeatable while stems remain planted and fruit spaces are cleared after harvest; fruit production is not a fixed timer.

Common mistakes

  • Breaking the stem while harvesting: target the fruit block instead.
  • Leaving fruit in place: clear the occupied spot to allow another fruit there.
  • Expecting bone meal to force fruit production: it advances stem growth only.

When to stop or switch

Stop harvesting when the project or trade stock is sufficient; leave stems and open fruit spaces for future production.
