Before you go

Farming steps

  1. Lead one or more sheep into a secure pen using wheat and close the entrance.
  2. Keep a grass block within reach so a sheared sheep can graze and regrow wool.
  3. Use dye on a sheep before shearing if you need a dedicated color.
  4. Shear the sheep and collect the dropped wool without killing the animal.
  5. Leave the sheep in the pen until it grazes and its wool regrows.
  6. Shear again and store the colored wool for the intended build or recipe.
  7. For automation, a dispenser with shears can be triggered by an observer detecting grass changes; route wool into a hopper or hopper minecart.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeatable after grazing and regrowth while sheep remain alive and have access to grass; shears need durability.

Common mistakes

  • Killing sheep for a renewable wool supply: shear them and preserve the flock.
  • Blocking grazing access: keep grass within reach after shearing.
  • Dyeing after collection when a color is needed: dye the sheep before the next shearing.

When to stop or switch

Stop when the project has enough wool; leave the sheep alive in the pen for future regrowth.
