Match the version that generated your chunks. Biome maps do not show exact ore blocks.

Before you go

Farming steps

  1. Choose a base plot with enough light reaching the tops of the bamboo.
  2. Place bamboo on dirt, grass, gravel, moss, sand, red sand or mud; water is not required.
  3. Allow the stalks to grow, or use bone meal to add one or two bamboo blocks when needed.
  4. Cut the upper stalks with an axe or sword, leaving the lowest planted bamboo block in place.
  5. Collect the dropped stalks and sort out the amount needed for scaffolding, sticks, fuel or building.
  6. For an automated row, use an observer and piston to detect a chosen height and cut growth, then route drops to storage.
  7. Check the row after harvesting and replace any lost planted base blocks.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeatable while the planted bases remain and tips receive enough light; automation is optional.

Common mistakes

  • Planting where the top is too dark: provide light level 9 or more at the growing tip.
  • Adding water unnecessarily: bamboo does not need water.
  • Cutting every block down to the ground: retain the base to continue growth.

When to stop or switch

Stop harvesting when your material stock is sufficient; leave the row growing for later use.
