Salt and coal feed useful cooking, smelting, and crafting needs; a region-specific collection run can replenish both without confusing base-island deposits with the DLC map.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Base-game Cloud Mist Forest: T5 Lakeside Forest for Salt Ore or Coal Ore, or T7 Giant Wood Forest for Salt Ore.
Plan a Cloud Mist Forest trip around the particular material you need. The base-island locations identify Salt Ore in Lakeside Forest and Giant Wood Forest, and Coal Ore in Lakeside Forest. These named zones provide a practical target, but they do not establish a dependable respawn schedule. This guide applies to the base island; Shifting Sands is a separate DLC map and is not part of this route.
A base-island save with access to the target map tier.
A pickaxe appropriate for the deposit and enough inventory capacity.
Combat supplies for potential enemies at pits or resource sites.
Choose the material before leaving: target Lakeside Forest for either Salt Ore or Coal Ore, or Giant Wood Forest for Salt Ore.
Open your Cloud Mist Forest map and identify a marked pit or deposit in the named zone; do not use Shifting Sands markers for this trip.
Travel to the target and check for local guards before entering the mining area.
Defeat or avoid enemies safely, then mine only the Salt or Coal deposit you came for.
Carry the collected material home and route it to the cooking, smelting, or crafting use that needs it.
Mark any useful node or pit on your own map so later trips can return to the same base-island zone.
Farming tips
The resource locator data is marked as work in progress, so confirm the marker and ore type in your own save.
Keep Salt and Coal in separate storage stacks so you can see which supply is running low.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat collection when your stock is low and the target site still has accessible deposits. No dependable respawn interval is established, so check the site instead of planning around a timer.
Common mistakes
Following a desert DLC marker from a base-island save can send you to the wrong map; stay on Cloud Mist Forest.
Assuming every Lakeside pit has both materials can waste a trip; target a deposit labeled for the needed ore.
Expecting a guaranteed respawn can leave you without fuel or cooking stock; maintain a reserve and verify the site.
When to stop or switch
Stop the run when you have enough of the selected resource for current recipes, or switch zones if the target deposit is absent or unsafe.
