Ores and raw resources

Nickel Ore

Nickel supports production chains, and a detector-led search makes it easier to collect without overmining adjacent planetary layers.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Planetary deposits and asteroid voxels. Nickel may be found around other ore layers; world settings can change distribution.

Search for a nickel signal, confirm it at the site, then mine the indicated voxel and process the ore in a powered Refinery. Re-scan beneath a surface find because planetary ore can extend in layers.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Powered Ore Detector or Hand Drill for prospecting.
  • Hand Drill or ship drills with cargo space.
  • Powered Refinery and conveyor access or direct ore input.
  1. Start with a powered detector at maximum range and sweep open terrain or an asteroid field.
  2. Mark nickel signals as they appear on the HUD so you can inspect them one at a time.
  3. Approach a signal and use a drill to confirm nickel before opening a large excavation.
  4. Mine the nickel-bearing voxel, keeping the cut narrow enough to avoid filling cargo with unneeded stone.
  5. When the signal continues beneath the first area, descend in stages and scan again to follow the layer.
  6. Transport the nickel ore to a powered Refinery and place it in the input or use a conveyor-connected cargo system.
  7. Collect the nickel ingots from the Refinery or connected storage.

Farming tips

  • Planetary deposits can share an area with iron or cobalt; keep separate cargo or verify ore labels during processing.
  • A large-grid detector can help find deeper layers that are outside a small-grid detector's range.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat the scan and extraction cycle when you need more nickel; save useful signal markers and revisit deposits that still yield ore.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving after finding only a top layer: check for a continuing signal beneath the first excavation.
  • Relying on visual color alone: use the detector and drill to verify nickel.
  • Expecting a refinery to process cargo without power or a valid input path: check power and conveyor connection before hauling.

When to stop or switch

Stop when your cargo is full, your next production need is covered, or the deposit signal no longer justifies further excavation.
