Uranium and Platinum

Uranium and platinum are scarce materials with asteroid-based vanilla search routes; choosing the right body prevents wasted prospecting.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Asteroids in the planetary system. Vanilla planet tables do not list uranium or platinum, and moons do not list uranium.

For vanilla survival, search asteroid voxels for uranium or platinum with a powered detector, mine confirmed ore, and process it in a full Refinery. The recorded vanilla distribution excludes uranium from moons and both target ores from planets; world settings may alter placement.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Spaceworthy ship with maneuvering thrust and power.
  • Powered Ore Detector set to maximum range.
  • Mining tools, cargo capacity, and a powered full Refinery.
  1. Travel to an asteroid area with enough fuel and cargo capacity for a mining return trip.
  2. Power the Ore Detector, set maximum range, and scan existing asteroids while following HUD ore signals.
  3. Mark a uranium or platinum signal and approach the corresponding asteroid voxel for confirmation.
  4. Mine only the indicated ore-bearing section, then check for additional signal depth before leaving the rock.
  5. Load ore into cargo and return to a base or ship with a powered full Refinery.
  6. Feed the ore into the Refinery directly or through conveyors; collect the matching ingots from its output.
  7. Store the ingots separately so they are available for later production.

Farming tips

  • Do not spend a vanilla search trip looking for uranium on a moon; use asteroid signals for this target.
  • The Basic Refinery cannot process uranium or platinum, so confirm access to a full Refinery before mining.

Repeat, collect and use

Asteroid prospecting and mining can be repeated at other ore-bearing asteroids. A specific deposit is limited by its remaining ore, so search for new signals after depletion.

Common mistakes

  • Searching planets or moons for vanilla uranium: focus on asteroids, while recognizing world settings can change distribution.
  • Using a Basic Refinery: send the ore to a full Refinery.
  • Mining an asteroid without verifying the detector signal: confirm uranium or platinum before loading valuable cargo.

When to stop or switch

Stop when the needed ingot stock is processed or cargo capacity is reached; return to the asteroid search only when more material is required.
