Agony Shards convert successful Agony Wave boss fights into a selectable final reward, so choosing a chest is part of the farm itself.

Where to farm
Agony Terminus, the reward area reached after an Agony Wave battle ends.
Agony Wave does not pay its main reward through ordinary monsters. Defeating wave bosses grants Agony Shards, and after the battle you use those Shards to open reward chests at Agony Terminus. Higher-value chests are designed to require more Shards, so your choice depends on how many bosses you defeat and which reward matters to your account. Plan to inspect the chest options after the run and spend the Shards deliberately. The available chest contents can vary; review the live selection rather than assuming a particular Essence or quantity is always present.
Unlock Agony Wave after Act 13 and the Unidentified Phenomenon quest.
Obtain an Agony Key from a Chaos Dungeon boss.
Defeat at least one wave boss to earn Agony Shards.
Know which seasonal resource or gear goal is currently most useful.
Enter Agony Wave from Saluto with an Agony Key.
Defeat ordinary monsters to fill the gauge and summon a wave boss.
Defeat the boss to gain Agony Shards, then continue as long as your build can manage.
When the run ends or you clear the waves, proceed to Agony Terminus.
Inspect each available chest and note its reward and Agony Shard cost.
Compare the cost with your Shard balance and choose a chest aligned with your current goal.
Open the chest and confirm the rewards before leaving the area.
Farming tips
Prioritize a chest you can actually afford; do not plan around an assumed shard payout.
Compare the displayed contents with your real bottleneck, such as Rune growth or gear crafting materials.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat with additional Agony Wave entries. Each run's Shard balance depends on boss defeats, and chest choices are limited by the Shards collected during that run.
Common mistakes
Expecting normal monsters to drop the main reward currency: wave bosses grant Agony Shards.
Spending before checking chest contents: inspect current rewards and costs at Agony Terminus.
Leaving Shards unused when a useful affordable chest is available: make the selection before exiting.
When to stop or switch
Stop at the chest selection once you have spent the Shards on the best available reward for your current goal; the farm loop resumes with another Agony Key.
