Before you go
- A crop seed for the produce you want.
- A Planter if ground is unsuitable, plus a placeable base location.
- Inventory space for harvests and seed reserves.
Farming steps
- Choose the crop target and acquire its corresponding seed before preparing the plot.
- Inspect the base area for a level grassy or fertile soil spot where planting is legal.
- If the ground is uneven or exposed, place a Planter in a protected, accessible location.
- Place the seed on the chosen growing surface and confirm that it has been planted.
- Leave the crop to grow, using its in-game state rather than an assumed universal timer.
- Harvest the mature crop and collect the produce and any seed output.
- Reserve enough seed to replant, then use or store the remaining harvest.
- Planters can help contain crops within a base and reduce exposure to theft in multiplayer.
- Keep the growing area reachable so you can collect output without dismantling the setup.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat planting and harvesting for as long as you have seeds and want the crop. Harvests are recurring, but seed availability and server settings can affect the cycle.
Common mistakes
- Planting on unsuitable ground and assuming it will work: use a Planter or suitable terrain.
- Leaving an exposed crop in a multiplayer area: place it behind base protection.
- Using the entire harvest: retain seed for the next planting.
When to stop or switch
Stop expanding when the harvest meets your food or material need; switch to a different crop seed if your priority changes.
