Before you go
- Reach Eridian Promontory through the main campaign after the Descent.
- Bring weapons and ammunition suited to Guardian groups; shock damage can help against their shields.
- Use a playthrough where the Guardians still award useful experience.
Farming steps
- Follow the main-campaign route after the Descent into Eridian Promontory; do not assume the area has a fast-travel station.
- Advance along the path toward the Vault-side end of the area, engaging the Guardian groups you encounter.
- Use shock damage to pressure Guardian shields, then switch to a weapon that can finish the target effectively.
- Collect useful drops as you move, but keep the run focused on the enemy route.
- Continue until the route is cleared or the remaining fights are no longer worthwhile for your current level.
- Save and quit to the title screen, reload your character, and return to the Promontory to reset the enemies.
- Repeat the same route and check whether the experience and proficiency gains justify another pass.
- Keep a second damage option ready after dealing with shields, so each Guardian does not become a prolonged fight.
- XP depends on level and playthrough; judge the route by your own progress rather than expecting a fixed payout.
Repeat, collect and use
Clear the Guardian route, save and quit, then reload and return to repeat it while the enemies remain worthwhile for your playthrough.
Common mistakes
- Do not assume you can fast travel directly to the Promontory; enter from the campaign path after the Descent.
- Do not expect fixed XP amounts or level-up times; rewards vary with level and playthrough.
- Do not keep repeating the route if the Guardians have become a poor XP source; compare with available story or side missions.
When to stop or switch
Stop when the route yields little progress for the time spent or another available mission offers better advancement.
