Before you go
- Vehicles & Mining research and a Mine Control Tower.
- An excavator and truck assigned to the tower.
- A reachable coal stockpile or consumer with room to receive deliveries.
Farming steps
- Locate a coal seam and check that it can fit inside a tower’s control area.
- Place the tower and inspect the covered area before designating the seam.
- Mark coal-bearing tiles as mining work.
- Assign an excavator and truck to the tower; set coal preference if the excavation zone contains other materials.
- Route truck deliveries to a coal buffer or a consumer that accepts coal.
- Check the route and destination capacity, then verify coal appears in storage or reaches its consumer.
- Keep the buffer visible in your supply planning so competing uses do not silently drain it.
- Coal extraction uses the tower mining system; a coal-fired generator is not a prerequisite for mining.
- A separate buffer helps reserve coal for a chosen factory when several consumers draw from it.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat while the seam has accessible coal and the receiving storage or consumer can accept it. The deposit is not an unlimited source unless your scenario settings say otherwise.
Common mistakes
- Waiting for a coal consumer before mining: the mine can operate once its tower, designations and vehicles are set.
- Mixing coal with unrelated excavated material: route it to an appropriate destination.
- Ignoring a full destination: trucks cannot keep delivering into storage with no room, so free capacity or redirect output.
When to stop or switch
Pause when accessible coal is exhausted or your coal buffer has enough stock for the active consumers and further extraction would only fill storage.
