A fish trap can provide a catch while you continue other activities, provided the trap type and water conditions are suitable.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
A freshwater or saltwater edge compatible with the specific Small Fish Trap or Fish Net Trap.
Place a usable fish trap at a compatible water edge, bait it when its design calls for bait, then check it during a later route. Trap recipes and usable conditions differ by type, so confirm the in-game interaction before relying on a catch. Process and cook any fish you recover.
Inspect the trap and confirm its type and whether bait is required.
Choose a water edge compatible with that trap rather than assuming all types work everywhere.
Set the trap using the available placement interaction.
Mark the location with a recognizable landmark and leave by a safe route.
Return during an ordinary supply loop and inspect the trap inventory.
Collect any catch and reset or rebait the trap if the interaction allows.
Process and cook the fish before eating or storing it.
Farming tips
Treat trap yield as uncertain and keep another food plan for the trip.
Avoid placing traps where repeated visits expose your route or supplies.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat checks while the trap remains available and functional. Catch is not guaranteed, and trap rules depend on its type and server.
Common mistakes
Assuming every trap uses the same recipe or bait: check the exact trap interaction in-game.
Expecting a set catch timer or guaranteed fish: check opportunistically and carry backup food.
Leaving a catch raw for a long return: process and cook it promptly.
When to stop or switch
Stop using the trap if the site becomes unsafe, the trap is lost, or repeated visits cost more than the possible food; switch to rod fishing or another source.
