Moving fresh produce into storage slows its decay compared with carrying it on your person.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Residential gardens, orchard areas, and food routes where fruit trees are present; store at a secure tent or other server storage.
Collect sound fruit and vegetables as incidental food during residential or orchard travel. Once back at shelter, store the produce you are not using soon and eat the most perishable items first. Fruit availability varies, so treat it as a useful supplement rather than a scheduled harvest.
Secure tent or other storage if preserving surplus
Food inspection before eating
Pass fruit trees during an existing supply route rather than making an unsafe detour.
Inspect each item and collect produce that is sound and usable.
Keep the haul modest enough to preserve stamina and room for essentials.
Return to shelter and sort the produce by condition.
Eat or prepare the food that should be used first.
Move the remaining produce from carried inventory into a tent or other server storage.
Farming tips
Fresh food decays faster in player inventory than in a tent or other storage.
Do not rely on a guaranteed fruit spawn timer; check trees naturally along your route.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat opportunistically whenever usable produce is available. This is a gathering loop, not a fixed-yield orchard harvest.
Common mistakes
Planning a trip around an assumed spawn schedule: gather fruit when encountered and keep another food plan.
Storing spoiled items with sound food: inspect condition and discard rotten produce.
Keeping all surplus on your character: transfer it to secure storage after returning.
When to stop or switch
Stop collecting when your inventory is full, the food is deteriorating, or the route becomes unsafe; return to shelter and preserve what remains usable.
