WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

A Farm Soil garden within carrying distance of a Crock Pot and food storage.

A productive garden can supply more produce than you need to eat raw. Route surplus to a Crock Pot for prepared meals, while protecting the seed reserve and any crops needed for the next planting. This is a harvest-processing loop for Don’t Starve Together: grow and tend crops, separate what the garden needs to renew itself, then cook the remainder. The exact meal depends on the ingredients you have, so choose a recipe from the ingredients in hand rather than expecting a fixed result.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Tilled Farm Soil, a Garden Hoe, and crop seeds
  • A tended crop harvest with produce beyond the seed reserve
  • A Crock Pot and other ingredients required by the meal you choose
  1. Plant crops suited to the season and maintain their moisture, nutrients, and tending needs.
  2. Harvest mature crops and sort the produce before cooking.
  3. Set aside seeds or crop produce for a caged bird if you need to recover specific seeds.
  4. Keep enough food for immediate use, then identify the remaining surplus.
  5. Bring surplus produce and any other needed ingredients to the Crock Pot.
  6. Cook a meal using an available recipe, then collect and store or eat the result.
  7. Return to the garden with the retained seeds and replant when conditions suit.

Farming tips

  • Separate seed stock before cooking so a useful crop does not disappear from your next planting cycle.
  • Keep a mix of ingredients available; the meal you can make depends on what the harvest and pantry provide.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat with each harvest when there is produce to spare; this is an ongoing processing loop, not a guaranteed meal from a single crop.

Common mistakes

  • Cooking every crop: reserve seeds and essential food first, then use only the surplus.
  • Assuming any crop makes a specific meal: match ingredients to an available Crock Pot recipe.
  • Ignoring crop care to prioritize cooking: maintain the garden through growth so later harvests remain possible.

When to stop or switch

Stop processing when the harvest is needed for replanting or immediate food, or when you have no suitable recipe ingredients; store the remaining produce for later.
