WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

A clear area near base with room for Farm Soil plots and paths between plants.

A garden starts with Farm Soil and regular tending. Place it near storage so planting, watering, and harvesting fit into base chores. This guide covers Don’t Starve Together’s reworked gardening system.

How to farm

Before you go

  • Garden Rigamajig to create Farm Soil
  • Garden Hoe to prepare planting spots
  • Seeds to plant
  • Access to water and suitable nutrient inputs
  1. Choose a clear area near storage, away from trees or obstructions that make tending awkward.
  2. Use the Garden Rigamajig to create Farm Soil where you want the garden.
  3. Use the Garden Hoe to prepare planting spots in the soil.
  4. Plant seeds, leaving paths so every plant is reachable.
  5. Check crops as they grow and provide the water and nutrients they need.
  6. Harvest mature crops and reserve seeds for the next planting.

Farming tips

  • Begin with a small bed you can tend consistently; expand once its routine is manageable.
  • Store saved seeds separately from cooking ingredients so meals do not consume your next planting.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat planting, tending, and harvesting while you have seeds and can maintain the plot; prepare planting spots again when needed.

Common mistakes

  • Using the wrong setup tool: the Garden Rigamajig creates Farm Soil; the Garden Hoe prepares planting spots.
  • Placing the bed too far from base chores: keep it nearby so routine tending is practical.
  • Treating all fertilizer as interchangeable: check crop needs and supply suitable nutrients.

When to stop or switch

Pause expansion when you cannot tend every plant; maintain the beds you have or shift effort to another food source.
