Organized farm beds make it easier to turn seeds into harvested crops while keeping replanting supplies in reserve.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
A planned farm area beside camp storage and an Alchemy Engine workspace.
Build a compact crop area near camp and improve the farm plot when you can craft the Improved Farm. The useful repeatable part is the crop cycle: plant seeds, allow growth in suitable conditions, harvest, then keep seeds or produce for another planting. This guide applies to single-player Don’t Starve farm plots; it does not use Don’t Starve Together gardening systems.
Basic Farm plots, with Improved Farm ingredients if you plan to craft that plot.
Seeds to plant and a reserve for later cycles.
Fertilizer such as Manure, Rot, or Guano for plot care as needed.
Select a compact area close enough to camp that you can reach each plot during ordinary food and storage runs.
Place Basic Farm plots and plant the seeds you are prepared to grow.
Keep the planting area organized so harvested produce and seed reserves do not get mixed together.
When Improved Farm crafting is available and useful to your plan, craft and place one using its recipe.
Plant seeds in the available plots and let crops grow while conditions are suitable.
Harvest mature produce and put aside seed-making produce or seeds before using the rest.
Replant the beds from that reserve and repeat while growing conditions allow.
Farming tips
Upgrade because you have the materials and a reason to manage plots; do not leave a working food cycle unplanted just to wait for an upgrade.
Keep the crop area reachable and protected from routine hazards, and store seed reserves separately from meals.
Repeat, collect and use
Plot use and replanting can continue while seeds, fertilizer when needed, and non-freezing growth conditions are available. A farm plot does not provide uninterrupted production through winter.
Common mistakes
Assuming an improved plot removes seasonal limits: harvest before freezing conditions stop growth.
Using all harvested produce as meals: keep some for the next planting or seed conversion.
Scattering plots away from storage: consolidate them so the crop cycle is easy to maintain.
When to stop or switch
Pause planting when winter conditions prevent growth or when your seed and food reserves are sufficient. Return to the beds when conditions again support crop growth.
