WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Basic Farm plots in a protected camp area, near storage and food preparation.
Use a Basic Farm plot to grow food crops from seeds, then harvest the mature produce and reserve part of it for the next planting. This is a small, hands-on food source for single-player Don’t Starve. It depends on seeds, fertilizer, and suitable growing conditions; it is not a reliable winter production method because freezing conditions halt plant growth.
Manure, Rot, or Guano available for plot care as needed.
A shovel or other means of obtaining fertilizer if your supply is away from camp.
Choose a level, reachable space near camp storage so harvesting and replanting fit your normal routine.
Craft and place a Basic Farm using the available farm recipe.
Plant gathered seeds in the plot rather than leaving them in storage.
Allow the crop to grow while conditions permit; do not expect fertilizer to advance growth below freezing.
Harvest the mature crop and move the produce to storage or food preparation.
Set aside some produce or seeds for the next planting instead of consuming the whole harvest.
Replant with the retained seed supply and tend the plot again.
Farming tips
Keep seed stock apart from ready-to-eat food so a hungry moment does not consume the next crop.
Grow and harvest before winter conditions; a plot cannot make up lost time while it is freezing.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat the plant, grow, harvest, reserve, and replant cycle while you have seeds and suitable growing conditions. A plot is a production site, not an unlimited supply independent of inputs or seasons.
Common mistakes
Planting every seed and leaving none for the next cycle: reserve a seed or produce supply before eating.
Treating fertilizer as a way to force winter growth: finish the crop before freezing conditions arrive.
Putting the plot far from camp: move it within easy reach so tending and harvesting remain practical.
When to stop or switch
Stop expanding the plot when you have enough food and seed reserve for the next planting, or switch to stored food and other sources when freezing conditions halt growth.
