Ancient Mines can help bridge early Nightmare progression. The goal is to clear a difficulty you can sustain, inspect the gear you earn, and replace weaker pieces as better drops appear. Gear strength depends on map progression and difficulty, so a stable run is more useful than a late-wave defeat that yields little progress.
Before you go Clear the Ancient Mines campaign on Nightmare Hardcore to unlock its Survival mode. Have builder defenses that can reliably hold the map’s lanes. Bring a combat character who can repair, upgrade, and handle threats that reach defenses. Select Ancient Mines, Nightmare Hardcore, and Survival from the map menu. Place your established builder defenses to cover each approach to the Eternia Crystal. During combat, repair damaged defenses and upgrade them where pressure is highest. Collect drops between waves and compare their stats with your equipped pieces. Equip Mythical pieces that improve your build; keep useful alternatives for other characters. Continue only while defenses remain stable and the drops are helping your next progression step. Leave the run and equip or store the worthwhile gear before choosing a harder map or difficulty. Prioritize pieces that strengthen the role you are using, rather than replacing every slot with a higher-level item. Repeat, collect and use Repeat Survival runs for additional gear and experience. The equipment drops are not guaranteed to be Mythical or upgrades, so inspect each piece.
Common mistakes Starting Survival before clearing the campaign on the same difficulty; finish that campaign first to unlock the mode. Pushing waves after the defenses are failing; collect what you have and return with stronger gear or a better layout. Equipping every new drop by its displayed level; compare the stats that matter for the character’s role. When to stop or switch Switch to a later map or higher difficulty when your current defenses are stable and Ancient Mines drops no longer improve the gear you need.
