Dark Fog units can provide repeatable item drops, including Soil Piles and other loot. A controlled defense and collection setup can turn enemy attacks into a renewable supply, but this activity is optional and depends on Dark Fog settings.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Near a Dark Fog planetary base on a planet where you can safely build and power defenses.
On a save with Dark Fog enabled, defend against units from a planetary base and collect drops with Icarus or a Battlefield Analysis Base. For an automated farm, use defenses to defeat units near a collection area and configure the analysis base to gather wanted drops. Drops disappear if left uncollected, and loot depends on unit level.
Battlefield Analysis Base for automated collection
A safe, powered site within collection range
Confirm a Dark Fog planetary base is present and assess its defenses before building nearby.
Choose a collection area that turrets can defend without placing fragile production in immediate danger.
Place and power turrets to defeat units that enter the defended area.
Place a Battlefield Analysis Base within range of the drops and set its filters for the items you want.
Monitor the base and defense line, collecting drops directly with Icarus if the collector misses them.
Check whether the source continues producing units and whether the threat level is manageable.
Retrieve collected items from the analysis base and route them to storage or production.
Farming tips
Dark Fog settings affect aggressiveness and growth, so enemy activity will vary between saves.
Higher-level units can drop higher-tier loot, but stronger bases and units also raise the combat risk.
Repeat, collect and use
This is repeatable while units continue to spawn and defenses defeat them. Drops are not guaranteed as a particular item; collect them promptly because ground loot disappears over time.
Common mistakes
Building close to a base without accounting for its turrets and units; scout and secure the area first.
Leaving loot on the ground; use a nearby Battlefield Analysis Base or collect it promptly with Icarus.
Assuming every unit drops a specific rare item; item type depends on the unit and its level.
When to stop or switch
Stop or relocate the farm if defenses fail, the base becomes too dangerous, or the desired materials are no longer worth the maintenance. Resume only after the area is secure.
