Oil and Refined Products

Crude oil extraction supports fluid-based production and research chains. A dependable setup connects each seep to powered extraction, refining, and usable storage or consumers.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Crude oil seeps on the starting planet or another planet where the star map shows crude oil.

Place Oil Extractors on crude seeps, pipe their output to refineries, and route each refined fluid to a separate consumer or tank. Seep yields vary, and Veins Utilization research affects extraction, so plan around the in-game output rather than assuming every seep produces the same amount.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Oil Extractor
  • Power connection
  • Pipes and fluid storage
  • Oil Refinery and downstream fluid consumers
  1. Find a crude oil seep and place an Oil Extractor directly over it.
  2. Connect the extractor to power and attach a pipe to its fluid output.
  3. Route crude to one or more Oil Refineries and provide the inputs required by the active recipe.
  4. Run each refinery output into a distinct pipe or tank so products do not become mixed.
  5. Connect refined products to their intended production chains or buffer them for later use.
  6. Check tank levels and refinery status; resolve a blocked byproduct line before adding extractors.
  7. Inspect the extractor's displayed output after Veins Utilization research changes.

Farming tips

  • Seep yield differs by location; use the extractor's current display when balancing the line.
  • Leave room for additional refineries or fluid handling if research increases the extraction rate.

Repeat, collect and use

Extraction and refining continue while the seep and production chain are operating. Oil seep output is yield-dependent; balance products and demand as the chain runs.

Common mistakes

  • Placing an extractor beside rather than on the seep; position it over the crude source.
  • Allowing one refined byproduct to fill its storage and block the refinery; consume, redirect, or crack excess fluid.
  • Using one shared pipe for distinct products; route fluids separately.

When to stop or switch

Stop adding extraction when crude and refined products meet current demand without blocked outputs. Expand or rebalance when a product tank fills or a consumer is starved.
