Celestial Essence at the Ascension Altar makes the dangerous Dread encounter more likely.
PC / Global, with Ashes of Malmouth, Forgotten Gods and Fangs of Asterkarn
WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
The Celestial Essence circle at the Ascension Altar in Kurn, Asterkarn. Dread may appear as you slay enemies in Ascendant Mode.
Celestial Essence is an outer-circle offering that increases the chance of drawing out Dread during Ascendant Mode play. Dread is a powerful enemy intended for well-prepared characters, so treat the offering as a risk increase rather than a boss-summoning guarantee. In the current 1.3.1-era patch, Dread can also drop Celestial Essence, creating a possible return on the material spent, but the drop is not assured.
Fangs of Asterkarn and access to the Ascension Altar.
Celestial Essence for the Dread encounter offering.
A character with defenses and damage suited to a powerful endgame enemy.
Current 1.3.1-era game version if seeking the documented Essence drop from Dread.
Prepare your build and clear a manageable campaign area before enabling the offering.
At Kurn, select the Celestial Essence altar circle and review the challenge increase.
Activate the modifier and continue killing enemies in Ascendant Mode areas.
Watch for Dread to appear during the run; the encounter is not tied to a guaranteed location.
Engage only when ready, using your normal boss defenses and avoiding unnecessary risk.
Defeat Dread and collect its drops, checking for Celestial Essence and equipment.
If Dread does not appear, continue only as long as the material and risk remain worthwhile.
Farming tips
Do not activate the offering on an undergeared fresh level 100 character; baseline Ascendant Mode is already harder than Ultimate.
Essence may drop from Dread, but plan as though the offering cost is spent.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeatable while you have Celestial Essence and continue playing with the altar modifier. Dread’s appearance and its Essence drop are both chance-based.
Common mistakes
Expecting the offering to summon Dread instantly: it raises the chance during play, so continue encounters or stop if risk is too high.
Assuming the Essence cost always returns: the 1.3.1-era drop is a chance, not a refund.
Engaging Dread without preparation: disable the offering or retreat from the farming plan if your build cannot handle the danger.
When to stop or switch
Stop once Dread is defeated for your session, you obtain the needed Essence, or the danger becomes disproportionate; switch to a safer material source or ordinary campaign play.
