Rotten Food for Garden Fertilizer

Reuse spoiled food by placing it on a garden plot as fertilizer instead of letting it occupy storage unused.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

A Garden Patch near your base or cooking area in Brookhollow Park.

Food that has spoiled can still serve a purpose in a garden. Keep the plot available, move rotten food from your inventory to the garden, and use the resulting crop area for cultivation. This is a reuse loop rather than a guaranteed fertilizer production rate: the research confirms that rotten food can be used as garden fertilizer, but does not establish a precise quantity or crop yield. Garden systems are subject to Early Access changes.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Garden Patch recipe and a placed garden plot.
  • Rotten food available from spoiled consumables.
  • Storage or inventory space to keep fresh food separate.
  1. Build or locate a Garden Patch using the recipe available in your current game.
  2. Keep an eye on carried food and identify portions that have become rotten.
  3. Separate spoiled food from anything still safe and useful to eat.
  4. Place the rotten food on the garden plot as fertilizer using its current interaction prompt.
  5. Plant the crop material available to you in the prepared patch.
  6. Collect the crop when the garden produces it and route it to food or processing needs.
  7. Repeat with later spoiled food rather than discarding it.

Farming tips

  • Use fresh food promptly so the fertilizer supply comes from genuine spoilage rather than planned waste.
  • Keep the garden close to cooking and storage to make sorting easier.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat whenever food spoils and a garden plot can use it. Rotten food is a limited byproduct of spoilage, not an endlessly available farm input.

Common mistakes

  • Eating or discarding spoiled food as if it had no use; route it to the plot.
  • Putting fresh food into the garden unnecessarily; preserve edible meals for use.
  • Assuming a specific crop yield or growth time; use the current in-game garden output as your guide.

When to stop or switch

Stop adding fertilizer when the garden has the supply it can use, or when you need to preserve fresh food for the next outing.
