Fertilizer and Mulch

Set farm mound soil to match a crop goal, then grow the crop result that fits your current planting or delivery need.

PC / Global, Early Access as of Oct 24, 2026; 1.0 announced for Nov 4, 2026
WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Prepared farm mounds at the homestead.

In the public Early Access build covered here, mound soil and crop type determine ordinary, high-yield, and mutated outcomes. This article uses the current fertilizer and soil terminology for that build; announced 1.0 changes are not treated as already live. Choose the crop before changing a mound.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Seeds for the crop you intend to grow.
  • A prepared mound and water for the crop.
  • The fertilizer that sets the desired soil condition, if available.
  1. Pick the crop and outcome before applying anything: for example, ordinary Wheat, high-yield Wheat, or mutated Wheat.
  2. Check the crop’s soil pairing. Wheat is Nitrogenic for standard growth, Phosphoric for high yield, and Potassic for mutation.
  3. Apply the fertilizer associated with the soil condition you want, then verify the mound state before sowing.
  4. Plant the selected crop in that mound and water it with available farming tools.
  5. Allow the crop to mature and inspect the result at harvest.
  6. Collect both crop output and returned seeds, then store each according to whether it is for replanting or use.
  7. Change the mound condition again only when the next crop or outcome calls for it.

Farming tips

  • Run a small test mound when trying a different crop and soil pairing before laying out a large field.
  • Do not infer one crop’s fertilizer pairing from another; Polyberry and Caroot have different listed conditions from Wheat.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat the soil-setting and planting cycle whenever you have seeds and the needed fertilizer. This is a recurring production method, not a guaranteed supply of fertilizer.

Common mistakes

  • Applying fertilizer after planting and assuming the crop’s outcome will change: set the soil before sowing.
  • Using Wheat’s pairing for every crop: check the target crop’s own condition.
  • Treating the announced 1.0 mulch changes as current Early Access instructions: use the build’s live farm controls.

When to stop or switch

Stop changing soil once the desired mound condition is confirmed; switch to a different pairing when your next crop or harvest goal changes.
