WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Gather the Badlands surface layer

Overworld — Badlands, Eroded Badlands or Wooded Badlands surface.

Red sand is a surface resource in Badlands terrain. Gather the loose orange-red layer with a shovel and bring it home; smelt it in a regular furnace if you need glass. The surface deposit is shallow, so do not dig deep expecting more red sand.

How to farm

Before you go

  • Shovel recommended.
  • Inventory space for red sand.
  • Regular furnace and fuel if making glass.
  1. Find a Badlands biome and scan its surface for orange-red sand.
  2. Dig through the visible red sand layer with a shovel and collect each dropped block.
  3. Move along the surface to another exposed patch when the layer ends.
  4. Check your inventory for the red sand item before processing it.
  5. For glass, put the red sand in a regular furnace with fuel.
  6. Collect the glass output and keep it separate from ordinary sand products.
  7. Return to another Badlands area if you still need more red sand.

Farming tips

  • The natural deposit is a single surface layer; deeper digging does not reveal a thick red-sand bed.
  • Concrete powder requires ordinary sand, so keep red sand for projects that accept that specific block.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeatable only by traveling to additional surface patches; mined red sand does not regrow.

Common mistakes

  • Digging deep below the surface layer: move to another patch instead.
  • Using red sand for a recipe that requires ordinary sand: check the block name first.
  • Using a blast furnace to make glass: use a regular furnace.

When to stop or switch

Stop when the build has enough red sand or glass; leave the biome when only unrelated terrain remains.
