WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Dig a desert or beach deposit

Overworld — exposed sand in a Desert or Beach biome.

Gather sand from exposed Desert or Beach deposits in manageable layers. A shovel speeds collection, but unsupported sand falls, so work across the surface rather than tunneling beneath an overhang. Process it into glass only when that is the project's required output.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Shovel recommended.
  • Inventory capacity for collected blocks.
  • Regular furnace and fuel if processing glass.
  1. Locate a desert or beach and identify pale sand blocks at the surface.
  2. Begin on the exposed layer with a shovel and collect the drops as you go.
  3. Move across the deposit, clearing the next layer only after checking what supports it.
  4. Keep sand in your inventory or a temporary container so loose blocks are not lost.
  5. At your base, smelt sand in a regular furnace with fuel if glass is needed.
  6. Collect glass and craft panes only if the project calls for panes.
  7. Return to the deposit for another load if the project shortage remains.

Farming tips

  • Sand falls when support is removed; avoid digging beneath unsupported overhangs.
  • Keep ordinary sand separate from red sand when the recipe requires a specific variant.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeatable by visiting more exposed deposits, but collected sand does not replenish at the site.

Common mistakes

  • Removing a block under a sand overhang: clear from the exposed upper layer.
  • Using a blast furnace for glass: use a regular furnace.
  • Leaving without checking inventory capacity: carry room for the blocks you plan to gather.

When to stop or switch

Stop when the project quantity is met; leave the deposit intact if you may need a nearby return route later.

  • Trader stock is limited, so natural deposits are the practical bulk-gathering method.
