Before you go

Have a planter box with a growing crop if you intend to use fertilizer immediately.
Leave inventory space for gathered feces.
Know which crop is currently planted and check its status.

Look along the ground near animal areas for visible Animal Feces.
Pick up each drop and continue your normal route rather than making an unsupported special loop.
Return to the Workshop and inspect the growing crop’s planter status.
Open the planter interaction and apply the available fertilizer to the crop if appropriate.
Check water and crop status while the planter is open, replenishing only what it indicates is needed.
Collect the crop when mature and retain the harvest for current needs before selling surplus.

Gather feces during errands to make fertilizer collection incidental.
Use fertilizer on crops you actually plan to harvest rather than treating it as a universal requirement.
