A Forest Cave near the starting islands is a practical first trip because it combines access with useful Stone and other cave finds. The exact amount needed depends on the recipes you choose, so gather against a visible crafting goal rather than clearing every vein.
Before you go A Pickaxe capable of mining the exposed ore. A weapon and food for cave exploration. Inventory space for ore, Stone and other finds. Find a cave entrance on a Forest island and enter with your Pickaxe equipped. Explore the accessible corridors, clearing nearby threats before mining. Mine Copper Ore from visible veins in the cave rocks. Check adjoining passages and side rooms for more exposed ore and useful materials. Return to the settlement when your inventory is crowded or you have enough for the next craft. Smelt the ore at a Furnace to produce Copper Bars. Use the bars in the workbench or equipment recipes you are pursuing. Farming tips Bring back Stone and other useful materials while making the trip; cave visits are a good time to restock basics. Use the crafting recipe as your shopping list so you do not carry excess ore home. Repeat, collect and use Repeat cave trips as needed; ore collection is a renewable exploration activity, but the quantity found on any one route varies.
Common mistakes Leaving before checking side passages: scan the revealed cave branches for visible veins before returning. Trying to smelt raw ore without a Furnace: build or use one at the settlement, then process the ore into bars. Mining while enemies remain active: clear the nearby area first so combat does not interrupt collection. When to stop or switch Stop once you have enough Copper Bars for the next chosen craft; return for more if a later recipe calls for them.
