Where to farm
Either corrupted altar in the currently active event zone.
Purifying corrupted altars awards Shards of Madness and contributes to the server-wide Nightmare progression. The first altar requires three Lesser lures; the second requires three Greater lures. Altar purification is the strongest stated source of shared progression and is best tackled with other players.
Level 20 or higher and campaign access to the active zone.
Three Lesser lures for the first altar or three Greater lures for the second.
Players to assist with the summoned nightmare, especially at the second altar.
Open the event panel and verify the active zone and available altar objectives.
Collect three Lesser lures from active-zone enemies for the first altar.
Travel to the first corrupted altar and activate it.
Defeat its summoned nightmare with nearby players and complete purification.
Collect the Shards and check any Greater lure credited by the encounter.
If pursuing the second altar, gather three Greater lures from eligible altar encounters.
Activate the second altar, defeat its summon, and collect the final reward.
Farming tips
Fit both altar clears into the active zone week if shared progression is your priority.
Check your Shard balance after each clear so you know how close you are to eligibility thresholds.
Repeat, collect and use
Altar encounters can be repeated while available in the active zone, but the zone itself rotates weekly. This is not a permanent daily source in every region.
Common mistakes
Starting an altar without its required lure count: confirm the item tier and quantity first.
Treating individual Shard or lure drops as guaranteed: inspect rewards after each clear.
Ignoring group help: recruit nearby players for a safer encounter and shared progress.
When to stop or switch
Stop after both available altars are purified and their rewards credited, or when your Shard target is met.
