Where to farm
Curious Deposits on planetary surfaces; refine the collected Runaway Mould in a refiner.
Locate Curious Deposits on a planet, collect the Runaway Mould they yield, and process it in a refiner for Nanites. The deposits appear as distinctive bouncing balls, but the route depends on finding a suitable site; it is not a guaranteed feature at every landing. Carry enough inventory room because mould stacks can occupy space, and return to a refiner to complete the conversion.
Analysis Visor for locating marked points of interest where available.
Mining Beam or the interaction indicated for the deposit.
Inventory capacity for Runaway Mould.
Portable Refiner or another available refiner.
Explore the planet and watch for a Curious Deposit site, identifiable by its bouncing ball formations.
Approach the deposit and confirm the objects before harvesting.
Collect the Runaway Mould from the deposit using the indicated harvesting method.
Check inventory space and transfer other items if the mould stack is crowding your working inventory.
Place or access a refiner and load Runaway Mould as the input.
Run the refining process and collect the resulting Nanites.
Keep the Nanites for the upgrade or purchase you are working toward.
Farming tips
Make room before harvesting so a full inventory does not interrupt collection.
Refine the mould before leaving the area if a refiner is available, or secure it in storage for later.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat whenever you find another Curious Deposit. The mould collected from each deposit is a one-time pickup; more output requires locating additional deposits.
Common mistakes
Assuming every planet has a convenient deposit can turn this into a fruitless search; use it opportunistically while exploring.
Filling inventory with mould can block other pickups; keep only the quantity you can carry or store.
Leaving the mould unrefined does not add Nanites to your balance; process it and collect the refiner output.
When to stop or switch
Stop after the Nanite amount you need has been collected, or when further searching is taking longer than another available Nanite activity; resume at the next deposit you encounter.
