Clay is an island reef material used in crafting and can be gathered during the same underwater trip as Sand and metals.
WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Clay
Underwater island reefs, along the wall around the island foundation.
Before you go
- Hook for harvesting reef nodes.
- Raft that can anchor near an island.
- Enough food and water to manage the island stop.
Farming steps
- Anchor the raft close enough to reach the island reef safely.
- Enter the water with the Hook equipped and identify the reef wall beside the island foundation.
- Follow the wall in a consistent direction, watching for Clay deposits.
- Use the Hook on each Clay deposit and collect the dropped material.
- Gather Sand or other useful reef materials when they lie along the same safe route.
- Return to the surface before oxygen is nearly exhausted and recover on the raft.
- Store the Clay for the crafting recipes you intend to make, and revisit another reef when more is needed.
- Keep the island foundation in view during the dive so the search stays on the reef.
- Combine Clay collection with a Sand sweep to make better use of the same anchor stop.
Repeat, collect and use
Clay can be collected again during later island visits. The reef trip is repeatable, though the actual nodes available depend on the island you visit.
Common mistakes
- Searching open water for reef Clay: follow the underwater island wall.
- Confusing Clay with Sand: inspect the deposit before harvesting.
- Continuing a dive with little oxygen: surface, recover and resume only if needed.
When to stop or switch
Stop when you have the Clay needed for the recipes on your list, or when your remaining oxygen or supplies make another pass unsafe.
