WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Crop Protection

Growing zones inside a defensible colony area, near storage and away from uncontrolled animal paths and flammable growth.

Before you go

Farming steps

  1. Place important fields close enough to the colony for regular work and defense; avoid long, exposed hauling routes.
  2. Use a fence or restrict tamed animals to an allowed area that excludes growing zones.
  3. Keep field edges clear of nearby flammable plants and objects, and consider fire protection where available.
  4. Split different crop areas and leave separation where practical so a blight or localized incident does not hit every field.
  5. Watch the zone’s growing period, temperature, and light; stop sowing when conditions no longer support the crop.
  6. When blight appears, prioritize cutting infected plants and inspect nearby crops for spread.
  7. Haul harvested output promptly to storage and maintain an alternate food source.

Repeat, collect and use

Protection is an ongoing routine through each planting and harvest. Field separation and backup crops reduce losses but do not prevent every event or guarantee recovery.

Common mistakes

  • Letting livestock graze through crops: use appropriate pens or allowed areas and check access after changes.
  • Planting every staple in one exposed field: divide production and retain stored or alternate food.
  • Leaving infected plants standing: prioritize cutting blighted plants and check nearby zones.

When to stop or switch

Keep protection active while crops are growing; shift effort to harvesting or repair when an incident has ended or the season makes further sowing unproductive.
