WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Use Hardiness for an Exposed Crop Bed

An outdoor planter or plant site exposed to the local temperature and biome conditions.

Before you go

Farming steps

  1. Choose the outdoor location where the crop will need to grow.
  2. Plant several seeds of the same crop in a trial area.
  3. Provide water and light appropriate to the setup while the plants develop.
  4. Inspect the six gene slots once visible, noting hardiness, growth, yield, and water intake.
  5. Observe which candidates remain healthy in the location’s actual conditions.
  6. Select a suitable plant for the exposed bed and keep other candidates separate.
  7. Continue checking plant condition as the selected crop grows.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat the trial when changing crop type or moving the farm to a different outdoor setting. A successful result applies to the tested location and planting, not automatically to another biome.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing only for yield: weigh hardiness and water demand too.
  • Assuming a plant’s genes are known before planting: inspect the planted candidate.
  • Treating one healthy plant as proof for every site: test stock in the location where it will grow.

When to stop or switch

Stop comparing candidates once you have healthy stock that fits the site and your water supply; use remaining planter space for production.
