WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Iron Ore

Use the Resource Scanner to locate an available Iron Ore group, then inspect the nodes in person. The best choice depends on your starting area, node purity, terrain, and how easily you can connect belts to your factory.

Before you go

Farming steps

  1. Hold V, select Iron Ore from the scan wheel, and follow the compass toward a nearby group.
  2. Inspect the candidate nodes and note each purity before choosing one that suits the intended output.
  3. For a short term supply, place a Portable Miner on the node and return to collect its stored ore manually.
  4. For a lasting line, place a Miner Mk.1 on the node and connect its output to a belt.
  5. Send the ore to a Smelter to produce Iron Ingots, then route ingots to a Constructor for Plates or Rods.
  6. Check that the Miner, belt, and smelting line can handle the selected node and that the machines have power.
  7. Expand with another node or processing machine only when the current line cannot meet demand.

Repeat, collect and use

Automated extraction and processing can continue indefinitely while the node, power, and downstream storage or production remain available. Portable Miner collection is a manual repeat: place, let it accumulate ore, collect it, and return as needed.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing a node by proximity alone can leave too little throughput; compare purity and required output before building.
  • A full downstream machine can back up the Miner; add storage or balance the feed into processing.
  • Expecting a Portable Miner to feed a belt will fail; collect its internal ore manually or replace it with a Miner building.

When to stop or switch

Stop expanding the line when its ingots reliably cover current construction and production needs. Revisit it when a new recipe or factory demand makes the supply a bottleneck.
