WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Find an Iron Ore resource node, place a Miner on it, and connect an output belt or other transport to your factory.

Iron Ore is a basic raw resource used chiefly to make Iron Ingots. It also appears in other recipes, including Steel Ingots and certain unlocked conversion recipes. For a standard resource layout, use the map to locate a node, then extract ore with a Miner and transport it to the machines that need it. Node purity affects extraction, so inspect the site and match your equipment and transport to the supply you want. Resource positions and purity can differ in worlds with randomized layouts or settings; verify the node in your own game before building a long line.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • A Miner and power supply.
  • Transport for moving ore to processing or storage.
  • A suitable unlocked recipe and machine for the intended use.
  1. Open the in-game map and look for Iron Ore, or explore to find a node.
  2. Inspect the candidate node and choose an accessible location that suits your production needs.
  3. Place an appropriate Miner on the node and connect it to power.
  4. Attach an output belt or other transport to move ore toward your factory.
  5. Send ore to a Smelter for Iron Ingots, or to another machine with an unlocked recipe that uses Iron Ore.
  6. Watch the receiving machine; improve extraction or transport if its input repeatedly runs empty.

Farming tips

  • The standard ingot route uses a Smelter to turn Iron Ore into Iron Ingots.
  • Node purity affects extraction, so account for it when planning supply.
  • Map positions may differ in a randomized world; confirm the node in game.

Repeat, collect and use

Keep the Miner powered and its output clear. Add supply from another accessible node if the consuming production line needs more ore.

Common mistakes

  • Searching the map for Iron Ingots; ingots are manufactured from ore.
  • Assuming a map position or purity will match a world with a different resource layout.
  • Sending ore to a machine without selecting an unlocked recipe that accepts it.

When to stop or switch

Stop adding extraction when the consuming machines remain supplied and your storage has enough reserve.

Iron Ore

Use the Resource Scanner to locate an available Iron Ore group, then inspect the nodes in person. The best choice depends on your starting area, node purity, terrain, and how easily you can connect belts to your factory.

  • A discovered Iron Ore node and a Resource Scanner target available in game.
  • A Portable Miner for temporary collection, or a Miner Mk.1 for automation.
  • Power, conveyor belts, a Smelter, and a Constructor for a powered parts line.
