WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Production Belts

Factory floor between a machine output and its next machine, container, or elevator destination.

Before you go

Farming steps

  1. Identify the exact item and its source port before laying a route.
  2. Place a belt from the source area toward one intended consumer or storage container.
  3. Connect an Inserter to the machine port and belt so it can transfer the item.
  4. Run a small amount of material through the line and verify that it reaches the destination.
  5. If the source produces several items, add a Filter Inserter set to the required product and give other outputs their own route.
  6. Use a container buffer where the line feeds a longer route or the elevator.
  7. Inspect the destination port and belt whenever production stops; clear full buffers or correct a misrouted item.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat this source-to-destination pattern for each item. The transport loop continues only while the source, destination capacity, and machine connections remain available.

Common mistakes

  • Belt passes near a machine without connecting to its port: place and test an Inserter connection.
  • Mixed outputs share an unfiltered lane: filter the desired item and route other products separately.
  • Using the elevator as unlimited storage: add containers to increase the buffer.

When to stop or switch

Stop adding belts once the target item reaches its consumer consistently and the buffer does not overflow; add a separate line if another item needs different routing.
