Spica Essence is a Rune growth material for Runes at level 31 or higher. It can allow growth toward level 45 or above, but use has three possible outcomes: the Rune can gain a level, remain at its level, or lose a level. That makes Spica a late-stage investment rather than a routine leveling item. Agony Wave is a named source of Spica Essence during The Farside, so use that activity to pursue the material, then apply it only to a Rune whose long-term role justifies the risk. Check the current item tooltip and Rune screen before spending each Essence.
Reach Agony Wave access and obtain an Agony Key from a Chaos Dungeon boss.
Have a Rune at level 31 or higher for Spica use.
Obtain Spica Essence from available Agony Wave rewards.
Select a Rune you expect to keep using.
Choose a core Rune that remains relevant to your build and verify its current level.
Run Agony Wave and defeat bosses to collect Agony Shards.
At Agony Terminus, inspect the reward chests and select one that offers the desired materials if shown.
Check inventory for Spica Essence and read its current tooltip.
Open Rune growth and select a Rune at level 31 or higher.
Review the warning that the result may increase, remain unchanged, or decrease the Rune level.
Apply the Essence only if each possible result is acceptable, then inspect the Rune's new level.
Farming tips
Use Spica on a core Rune rather than a temporary leveling skill, because failure can lower its level.
Check chest contents before spending Agony Shards; do not assume every chest contains Spica.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat while you obtain Spica Essence and have eligible Runes. The use is stochastic; Agony Wave rewards and chest contents are not a guaranteed fixed quantity.
Common mistakes
Trying to use Spica on a Rune below level 31: level the Rune first and confirm eligibility.
Expecting every use to increase a level: growth, retention, and failure are possible outcomes.
Treating Spica as a reversible craft: consider the possible level loss before applying it.
When to stop or switch
Stop once the Rune reaches your target level, or pause when a possible level loss would set back a more valuable build goal.
